Canoeing Nissequogue River October 18th
Start at
Paul T. Given County Park (across from the Smithtown Bull) - 12:00
Our Canoe
trip down the Nissequogue River is this Sunday October 18th at 12:00. October
mornings have been cool but our 12:00 Start time will be the warmest part of
the day and the weather forecast is lovely. This years Canoe Commander will be Heath Berger (hhberger@optonline.net or
516-456-3778) and his trusted guide Joanne
Agruso. Like Meriwether Lewis and William Clark (Lewis and Clark) assisted
by Sacajawea, they will lead our regatta on a safe and inspirational journey
down the Nissequogue River.
Your 2 1/2
hour canoe or kayak trip ends at "The Bluff" in Kings Park. There
will be a shuttle bus to take us back to our cars at the end of our voyage.
Timing is critical when paddling down the Nissequogue River since it is an
estuary. A falling tide assists you when paddling downstream toward "The
Bluff" where the Nissequogue River empties into the scenic Long Island
Sound.
Canoes
$41.00 (2-4 people) or single kayaks $41.00
or double
kayaks $50.00 Please make checks payable to Nissequogue River Canoe Rentals & Kayaks Inc.
(N R C R
& K inc.)
(or bring your own boat and just come along)
Let us know
your coming down so we won't leave without you. All Families and Friends are
invited. Last minute participants are welcome we all "pay at the
door" (or before we get in the boat)
Shalom
Dear Fellow Congregants, Wow... the TBS Men's Club October Family, Friends & Fun Festival has been a huge success. Our 1st Annual Sukkah Hop was so very special. There is nothing like getting together with our friends while celebrating the natural, historical & spiritual holiday of Sukkot. Thank you sincerely to all our host families and all the hoppers for participating and making all our hard work worthwhile. Thank-you to Rabbi Nesenoff, Hebrew school principal, Cantor Carla, and Cantor Judy Merrick for guiding us with history, song and friendship throughout this joyous occasion. Ok... Ok... Was that Fishing Trip the BEST or what?? C'mon 54 of our Friends & Families renting out the whole Yankee3 Fishing Boat. We had the best weather... blue skies... and FISH!! There is nothing in this world like the expression on a kids face while they're reeling in a fish. Actually the parents had pretty big smiles on their faces also. I can't thank our Congregational Families enough for participating in our events. I realize it's tough with our busy schedules to do all our activities. That is exactly why we're having something happening every weekend this month. So if you missed the first few events you'll have two more chances to get involved! Our NEXT FUN on a SUNday October 18th EVENT... CANOEING!!! That's right... Like the ancient Jews of Egypt along the Nile River, Jews of Long Island have enjoyed the serene beauty of the North Shore's Nissequouue River. This will mark our 2nd annual Jews in Canoes River Dance. With a little luck of good weather we will see the early Autumn leaves from a view like no other. We will Meet at Paul T. Given County Park across from "The Bull" on route 25/25A in Smithtown. at 12:00 and enjoy a 2 1/2 hour journey traveled by ancient Smithtownians for hundreds of years. Please fill out the attached Flyer and drop it off at the Temple Beth Sholom Office or Send me an email at: mensclub@tbsofs.org All Friends and Families are invited Please spread the word and contact me asap with your reservations. and don't forget we have an old fashioned Corn Maze and Fall Festival visit at Finks Farm in Manorville on Sunday October 25. (see flyer below). Shalom and Best regards, Craig Haft TBS Men's Club Prez.
